Over the next three years he lived in Kapuskasing, Ontario, where he learned to speak English.
His father was a travelling salesman for Canada Packers; his mother was a piano teacher. When he was 14, after his parents divorced, his mother moved the family to Sainte-Rose, Laval, where he finished high school.
Dupuis' own experience playing hockey and his ability to perform on the ice on authentic period hockey skates were useful for this film, in which several professional hockey players were cast in supporting roles.
The film was nominated for the Jutra Award 2006 in fourteen categories, including Dupuis for Best Actor, but he did not win it.
